When Dustin Johnson and Abigael Hance-Briscoe stopped by the Twisted Trick bar in late August, they didn’t expect a cocktail order to be a life-changing decision.
But after they ordered a Flaming Pineapple at the Oak Lawn-area bar – a cocktail loaded with Everclear, garnished with a lime, then set ablaze – the Dallas couple found themselves at the Parkland Memorial Hospital burn unit with first-, second- and third-degree burns.
The bar has since closed, and the couple is suing for a million-plus dollars for negligence. The bar has denied wrongdoing, claiming it was an “accident.” Attorneys representing Twisted Trick bar have also denied all allegations.
According to the lawsuit, extra Everclear was added to the cocktail by the bartender and lit with a torch, causing the drink to explode after igniting.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Hance-Briscoe suffered “severe” burns and remained in the ICU for a week following a round of surgeries. Johnson also was hospitalized for multiple days. The burns were on the couple’s arms, necks and faces. Hance-Briscoe faces potential permanent nerve damage with at least one more reconstructive surgery and long-term rehabilitation in her future.
