Patrick Esquerre’s new cookbook, written in collaboration with his mother, Monique, is a collection of the recipes behind La Madeleine’s bakery and cafe. When Patrick Esquerre started serving food at La Madeleine, he used his mother’s expertise (she had written a successful French cookbook) as the basis for a lot of the cafe’s specialties. So here are the recipes from his youth, from his mother, and from his country home. More interesting than the recipes are the stories behind them–such as tales of Patrick’s childhood in the Loire Valley. The book is published independently by La Madeleine and is available in local bookstores and at Stanley Korshak.

From a French Country Kitchen, Monique Esquerre and Patrick Esquerre.
