Erewhon, a Los Angeles-based grocery store known for organic products and bougie, over-the-top offerings, caused a huge stir on Instagram recently. The store’s official Instagram account, which has nearly 600,000 followers, teased “a taste of Erewhon” coming to 18 new cities outside of Los Angeles, including Dallas.

So, yes, you too can soon buy an $80 case of Erewhon water! JK! You can’t, they’re actually sold out. (We don’t make it up, we just report it.) And you also can’t get a $23 smoothie made by Sabrina Carpenter. Bummer. But we’re pretty sure you can find other $23 smoothies in Dallas.

Understandably, most people took this as the announcement of a nationwide expansion outside of LA, where it has been based since 1969. But the post’s caption was quickly changed to “A Taste of Erewhon Shipping to Your City. Coming Soon.”

Today, a new video was posted announcing that Erewhon products will be shipping nationwide, beginning this Friday, Oct. 3.

Oops. Just Shipping

Of course, things move fast on social media, and Dallasites were already reacting to the thought of a new chic grocery store in the city. On @dallasites101, a popular Instagram account for Dallas events and restaurants, some locals took to the comments section to sound off on the news.

The most common thread here was making fun of the store’s prices and celebrity collaborations, notably Hailey Bieber’s $20 strawberry glaze smoothie, which was used in the video announcing nationwide shipping. The criticism is warranted, yes, but also comes with a bit of Texas’ unnecessary vitriol towards California.

Instagram user @tallglassofvodka chimed in with the most reasonable take of all: “How you gunna ship a smoothie?”

For the most part, Dallas social media needs to chill out. No, Erewhon is not invading our city, and we’ve yet to see what the new nationwide shipping is going to look like. It is a good point, just how are they going to ship a smoothie?
