Through January, Le PasSage will be open only for dinner on Friday and Saturday and weekend brunch. This small shift is prepping the restaurant for a much larger change this year: a complete remodel from luxurious Asian fusion into an all-day cafe.
The transition from something upscale to something for the everyday is not surprising, and a good call for Travis Street Hospitality.
Every time I walk the Katy Trail, Rose Cafe is bursting at the seams with casual diners. Meanwhile, Le PasSage is a ghost town. I’ve never seen it sport a full patio. Actually, since it opened, I’ve never seen anyone sitting on the patio … Ever.
D Magazine first reported the news last month. According to food critic Brian Reinhart, the $190 Peking duck is the centerpiece of the menu.
We dined there early last year, and there was a lot left to be desired. We didn’t have the duck (maybe we should have), but we had plenty of other plates, and it’s pretty bleak that our best dish that night was the doughnut on the dessert menu (that’s actually worth every bit of its $15 price tag).
Influencer @ingoodtastedallastx regurgitated D Magazine’s report about the closure in a video, and there’s not a single redeeming statement in the comment section. Except for one person who praised the matcha pancakes at brunch.
It’s unanimous among commenters that anything on the Katy Trail should be casual.
User @touchethepodcast wrote, “I’m actually so here for this, I 💯want something that I can just walk off the trail into.”
“I went once, and while I appreciated the attempted ambiance, it’s not what I’m looking for right next to the KT, much more of a rooftop vibe,” user Kaks commented.
Access could have played a large part in why the group is making a swap. Many only noticed the restaurant because of its display along the Katy Trail, but few would walk a half-mile minimum in either direction just to access it.
Well, whether they intended it or not, Travis Street Hospitality got the memo. Le PasSage will remain open through January, but is likely to make moves to close soon after. As of now, we don’t have a name or an opening date for the new space, but we will keep y’all posted.
Please, just don’t give us a glorified ice house dupe (what some commenters requested).
