Braden and Yasmin Wages, the couple behind Malai Kitchen, have been working on a new restaurant that just opened on the corner of Park and Preston in Plano last week: Brya Zan Thai Noodle + Brew.
The restaurateurs have taken all the lessons they learned from opening and expanding Malai Kitchen to four locations over the years and opened this approachable, fast-casual spot, which they say is a fresh take on Southeast Asian cuisine.
Popular dishes, like pad Thai, drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice, are staples on the menu; there will be more noodle and wok-fired dishes ranging from $11 to $15. Malai Kitchen’s famous house-brewed beers will also be available, as will iced coffees, teas and frozen cocktails.
“We’ve been working on this concept quietly for years,” said co-owner Yasmin Wages. “While we perfected the operations and consistency at Malai, we were also envisioning a place where guests could enjoy their favorite dishes faster, without compromising quality or flavor. Brya Zan is the result.”
The new spot is a vibrant addition to the Preston Park Village. The interior and exterior are inspired by the street markets plotted all across Southeast Asia. There’s plenty of indoor seating, a patio that’s a few weeks out from its prime season and bar seating for those coming for the brews.
The Menu
If the flavors are good, it’s sure to be a hit in the area. All the entrees are at a base price of $11.50. Adding a protein of your choice is what will bring the price up, but only by a few dollars. Cocktails are all $8.75, and Malai’s own brews from Southlake range from $5.75 to $6.75.
Grabbing a few sides is tempting with prices ranging from $4-8 for edamame, taro fries, wings, summer rolls and fried pork wontons. Kids 12 and under can eat for $7 and brewed iced teas go for $2.75. What a breath of fresh air. We’re dining like it’s 2015.
Brya Zan Thai is now open at 1909 Preston Road in Plano and is open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
