Visitors to the State Fair of Texas will have to wait at least a year before they can use their iPhones to instantly locate the closest fried cookie dough stand.
State fairs in Ohio and Indiana this week announced plans to roll out iPhone apps that will allow users to locate and rate their favorite foods, but Texas State Fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding says event organizers here have been too busy with a website relaunch to contemplate an iPhone project.
“It’s something we’re looking at for next year,” she says. “Right now, the website is demanding our full attention.”
The new website will have a mobile component, Gooding adds.

City of Ate test-drove the Ohio State Fair’s food finder, using the search term “stick.” The program produced 18 mapped matches, including cheese on a stick, pork chop on a stick, garlic mashed potatoes on a stick and boiled egg on a stick.
Vendor Brian Shenkman told Slashfood that he thinks the app will help him sell more fried buckeyes, an extra fatty version of the traditional chocolate and peanut butter treat: “We won’t have the complaints that we had last year with people saying they can’t find us,” he said. “You’ll find us now.”
