Tallies of how much food was consumed at the State Fair of Texas this year aren’t yet available, but the amount of food donated was record-setting.
The North Texas Food Bank this morning announced its haul over a series of collection Wednesdays came to 177,558 pounds, breaking the previous record by 3,000 pounds. As City of Ate recently reported, the food bank needed fairgoers to ante up 60,000 pounds of food this week to set the record.
Donations don’t grow steadily from year-to-year: The food collection record has stood since 1999.
“Great job everyone,” spokeswoman Paige Phelps wrote in an e-mail. “Thank you.”
