Independent Journalism in Dallas Needs You
We need to raise $12,500 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Care for a complimentary cocktail and appetizer? State and Allen Lounge will offer free drinks and hors d’oeuvres from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today. There’s a catch: you may need an invitation–we’ve never been certain after carelessly tossing out the mailer–and you have to listen to a spiel about all the restaurant’s environmental initiatives.
To be fair, State & Allen goes out of its way to be green. Steps include hiring a commercial company to pick up its recyclable waste, using recycled paper for its cups and containers, and buying biodegradable plastic bags and food containers. It also pumps in its new cooking oil (rather than buying it in plastic containers) and then contracts with a company to recycle its used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel.
How can you not applaud their efforts? After all, only a healthy planet can provide all the organic food it takes to sate the appetites of hungry Uptowners. Or at least, that’s what we’ll say as we pretend to listen. All we heard was “free drinks.”
