Shell Shack Is Moving Out of Uptown but Leaving a Poke Spot in Its Place

Shell Shack, the flagship Uptown seafood joint that opened in 2013, later spawning five other locations, is moving to Henderson Avenue, according to a press release. The restaurant is taking over the space formerly occupied by the short-lived Mellow Mushroom, “which means more interior seating, a patio and a bigger parking lot,” according to the release.

But the former Shell Shack space won’t be empty long: A new poke spot called Poke Go Go is slated to open in its place.

Another concept from Shell Shack founder Dallas Hale, Poke Go Go “is a new venture that will focus on raw fish bowls, bringing a taste of the popular trend to McKinney Ave.,” according to the release. Poke is, indeed, a popular trend right now – poke restaurants have opened en masse around DFW in the last 18 months, but the trend seems to be slowing.

The new Shell Shack at 2326 Henderson Ave. is expected to open later this spring, with Poke Go Go opening shortly after at the space at 2916 McKinney Ave., according to the release. A Denton location of Shell Shack is also slated to open this spring. Owners have yet to give an exact date for Shell Shack Uptown’s closure.
