Before last Thursday, East Dallas was a weekend-only popsicle area. Folks had to buy grocery store popsicles and store them in their own freezers for home consumption. The only public popsicle eating happened at local events or maybe a weekend Farmers Market. It was downright disturbing. Well, all that has changed now that Alabama-based Steel City Pops has quietly opened its fourth location in Casa Linda Plaza.
This location has notably better parking than the Greenville Avenue shop, but with slightly fewer suburban moms than the Firewheel spot. There’s also a good-looking lofted seating area up top. Sweets-on-a-stick at Steel City go for $3 a pop (see what I did there?) and come in a few classic flavors like strawberry, chocolate or coffee, as well as lots of slightly quirky and even super funky flavors like maple bacon bourbon, tomatillo and smoked fig with cheese.
Steel City Pops is open from noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. November might seem an odd time to open a popsicle shop, but these tasty, trendy treats will do just fine no matter the weather over in Casa Linda (1152 N. Buckner Blvd., 214-691-2300).
