When I talked to Jeffery Hobbs about his departure from Sissy’s, he was on and off the record like a sauce pan is on and off the heat. All I could get him to say was that he was leaving to pursue his own interests.
And that excited me.
Hobbs’ cooking at Sissy’s helped earn the restaurant four stars in The Dallas Morning News and propelled the Henderson Avenue chicken den into one of the most popular restaurants in Dallas. Surely, I thought, left to his own devices Hobbs would be able to create an even more compelling menu.
Instead, he’s off to Fort Worth to join the Consilient Restaurants in opening American F+B. What’s worse is he’s heading to Atlanta after the first restaurant opens, to open a second location of the same brand, according to Culture Map. Hobb’s has gone corporate!
Sampling Hobb’s cooking will require a significant drive for the Dallasites who have become a fan of the chef. I wonder if any fried chicken will be on the upcoming menu at American F+B? Either way he’ll be missed in the Big D.
