With Thanksgiving right around the corner, several grocery stores, nonprofit organizations and charities in the Dallas area are hosting turkey giveaways. Here’s a list of places for families to get a free or cheap turkey this holiday season.
Fiesta Mart
4245 Berry St., Fort Worth
10 a.m. – noon, Friday, Nov. 22Witherite Law Group and DeDe McGuire of K104-FM Dallas are hosting a turkey giveaway this Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at Fiesta Mart on Berry Street in Fort Worth. The event doesn’t require registration beforehand and is open to the community. There are 1,000 turkeys available, first-come, first-served.
UNT Dallas Campus
7300 University Hills Blvd.
9 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Nov. 23North Texas Food Bank, in collaboration with UNT Dallas and Tom Thumb/Albertsons, will host a Thanksgiving food distribution for families in need on Saturday, Nov. 23. Each family will receive a turkey and around 60 pounds of food. Families do not need to register in advance but are required to have a vehicle for the drive-through setup, according to the press release. Food is distributed first-come, first-served.

West Dallas Multipurpose Center

11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25The City of Dallas, along with other community organizations, is giving out uncooked turkeys and fresh produce on Monday, Nov. 25. There will be drive-thru meals available for 300 households. This event is limited to residents of ZIP codes 75208, 75211 and 75212, and proof of household address is required. The food is first-come, first-served.
Realty of America
2040 N. Beltline Road, No. 200, Mesquite
6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25Realty of America, a real estate brokerage, is handing out free turkey on Monday, Nov. 25, starting at 6 p.m. The event doesn’t require registration and is open to the community. There are 150 turkeys available, first-come, first-served. Early arrival is strongly suggested, according to a social media post. This event also includes a DJ, face painting, a bouncy house and raffles.
Dream Center Dallas
1900 S. Ewing Ave. and other locations
1-4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27Dream Center Dallas is giving out Thanksgiving meal kits for the community the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at the following locations:

Registration isn’t required, and meals are first-come, first-served. The giveaway this year is Dream Center’s largest Thanksgiving event ever, and the organization is still recruiting volunteers to help with the food distribution. North Texas Food Bank Partners
North Texas Food Bank has provided over 30,000 turkeys to about 500 local food pantries and organizations this year. Families can find locations online and confirm with food pantries whether they still have holiday food and their hours of operation.
Grocery Store Deals
Kroger has frozen Grade A turkeys for 69 cents per pound with an additional $25 purchase, Nov. 20-28. This deal is offered with the use of a digital coupon available on Kroger’s app.
At Albertsons, frozen turkeys are 59 cents per pound with an additional $50 purchase.
At Target, customers can get a Thanksgiving meal for four people for just over $20. The meal kit includes a frozen turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, cream of mushroom soup and green beans.
