Leslie Brenner reports that the owners of Zanata have closed the restaurant after a significant fire. Based on the account on the DMN’s Scoop blog, the fire, which broke out Sunday morning, was significant enough to damage the inside of the restaurant, as well as the roof, and was recently ruled accidental.

Firefighters battled the blaze from inside the building before moving outdoors to deal with the roof fire. It took firefighters at least an hour to contain the fire, and when they were done one-third of the second floor roof had burned off, damage that will require a lengthy closure to repair.

I ordered this grilled cheese and tomato soup because my intended destination in Plano was closed, and I ended up liking it enough to put it on my 100 Favorite Dishes list. Zanata had a great little dining room and the smell of pizza always lingered. Here’s hoping it comes back sooner than later.
