The king (or queen?) of dance clubs, this hook-up-friendly outpost in Oak Lawn has the hottest beats and the hottest bodies. Questionable fashion choices abound (no one can really pull off vinyl short-shorts), but it’s still the best environment for getting sweaty and heady while a DJ drops the needle.

Showing 419 - 440 of 513We can admit when we’re wrong. (It’s easy after so much practice.) So we confess we had doubts the Statler Hotel, built in 1956, would ever come back to life. We had watched it sit vacant in a neglected corner of downtown for nearly two decades. But it’s amazing what people with vision, dedication and […]
Destined to be known as that other pizzeria in Deep Ellum, Stonedeck Pizza Pub gives the neighborhood a slice it has never seen before. While Cane Rosso focuses on light, almost wispy Neapolitan pies, Stonedeck offers what they call classic American thin-crust pizza. The description is a mouthful and so are their pizzas. Apart from […]
In case you’re wondering about the name, this historic watering hole used to be a pharmacy – called the Stoneleigh Pharmacy. It’s as classy as you’d expect an Uptown bar to be, yet still manages a humble, welcoming, aw-shucks vibe. The parking lot may be full of luxury cars, but any place that sells $2 cans […]
A Yelp reviewer’s complaint about this place is exactly what makes it so endearing to its fans. He was miffed because the “non-recognized music is not able to be changed.” Exactly. One of the best craft beer bars around, Strangeways is an off-beat East Dallas neighborhood pub with a great patio. The eclectic wall art, […]
If you’ve ever wanted to hear some loud, abrasive hardcore and buy a book about weed at the same time, Strawberry Fields is your place. Or at least, it WAS your place. The store will be moving to a spot adjacent to Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios this summer, whereupon it will expand its merchandise but, […]
Rick Fairless owns Stroker’s Ice House, but it’s his 71-year-old, profanity-spewing mother that manages the self-proclaimed “biggest, baddest biker bar in Dallas.” Featured on the reality show Ma’s Roadhouse, the stuffed critter-head and biker-babe covered walls enclose a venue born for classic rock, poker tournaments and wet T-shirt contests. This all fueled by the only […]
Since 1989, Sue Ellen’s has been a staple in Dallas lesbian nightlife where everyone is welcome. It used the pandemic hiatus to upgrade, update and polish everything. When it finally reopened, a crowd poured onto the sidewalk waiting to get inside. Keep an eye out for its schedule for their regular events and live music, […]
Surf Camp is Nick Badovinus’ rooftop bar and restaurant in the East Quarter, perched above National Anthem and Brass Ram. Self-described as a “rooftop refreshments and fair-weather snack bar,” Surf Camp delivers on those promises from start to finish. The cocktails lean heavily on tropical motifs, all the beer comes in cans, and there’s light […]
Dallas got its first proper tiki bar in 2020, smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. But, you can’t keep a good grind down. Fully vested in every aspect of island life, including a Dole whip machine and tropical drinks served in SPAM tins, this spot on Lowest Greenville serves traditional Hawaiian plates with […]
The Texas Theatre is where Lee Harvey Oswald hid from police after he shot JFK. But that bit of history trivia is only one element in the landmark’s mystique, and the institution would be just as interesting without it. The theater offers impeccable film programming with classic films and art house gems, and its special […]
