Instead of dining out at the latest concept from big-money out-of-towners, we much prefer local spots that feel like part of their neighborhood. Goldie’s in Northeast Dallas is a prime example of why this works: The space is dark and cozy, the service is attentive without pretense and the menu is tidy and compact, which gives the kitchen the ability to focus on doing a few things and doing them well. Despite the menu’s small size, there’s something for everyone to be found, and Goldie’s has an excellent beverage program to round out their vision.
Top Pick: Boring chicken breast entrees are banished here, replaced instead with “magic” chicken thighs. The savory thighs are pan-fried and glazed with a ginger guava sauce, and are served with mashed yams and mustard greens that sing with flavor.
