La Popular Tamale House

The food to order here is -- you guessed it -- tamales, albeit they are tamales of small stature. Among the permutations of filled and steamed corn masa are pork and jalapeño tamales and tamales with corn, pea and potatoes as well as some with beans. Unfortunately, all the orders must be to-go, as there is no interior seating at this small, storefront shop. There are, however, fresh tortillas, tortilla chips and salsa beyond the dozen tamales for a 10 spot. For those who believe there is no such thing as too much La Popular Tamale House -- and they do exist -- there is a satellite location in Shed No. 2 at the Dallas Farmers Market.
