Ever since Fergus & Geronimo won the Dallas Observer Music Award for “Best Funk/R&B Act,” there’s been plenty going on in their camp. First, they announced their signing with the Sub Pop imprint Hardly Art.
But when they sent us word of the January 18, 2011, release date of their album Unlearn, we were thoroughly impressed by a tiny little tidbit about their CMJ Music Festival performance at New York’s Shea Stadium.
And now, they’ve given us the first sample of their new material: an MP3 from Unlearn, called “Powerful Lovin’.”
The track is a two-and-a-half minute doo-wop number, complete with Fergus & Geronimo’s signature lo-fi organs and blown out vocals. And it actually makes their “Best Funk/R&B Act” nomination quite a bit less ridiculous. Check it out after the jump.
