Seemingly out of nowhere, a local release showed up on my desk last week. Normally, this kind of thing doesn't result in a great deal of enjoyment. But in the case of a sextet known as Most, the pleasure factor proved to be exceedingly high.

The Denton band's debut EP, Missing Finding, hits the streets any day now, and keyboardist Patrick Emile was kind enough to share the EP's opening cut with the sorry lot at DC9. Check out "The Sticking Place" after the jump.

I totally dig this. Kind of soulful, jazzy indie pop.

Vocalist Olivia de Guzman Emile sure has a nice set of pipes, and the rhythm section of bassist Adam Duc and drummer Marqus Burleson know how to work up a good funky sweat. I can't really compare Most to any other local ensemble--and that's a good thing.

Doesn't appear as if the band has any gigs lined up at the moment, but I'm looking forward to catching these guys (and gal) in person to see how their sound transfers to a live setting.

Bottom line: A new band well worth checking out.
