Cute Is What We Aim For, Meg & Dia,Every Avenue, Breathe Carolina, AnarborSunday, March 8, at House of Blues

Most discerning listeners over the age of 18 tend to dismiss mainstreamo as nothing but stupid haircuts, whiny vocals and self-obsessed lyrics. But for each of the last eight years, the Take Action! Tour has championed the charitable nature of that scene.

Presented by Hopeless Records (and its nonprofit label, Sub City), the annual trek raises funds for and awareness of youth-oriented charities; this year's beneficiary is DoSomething.org.

Cute Is What We Aim For, a band whose of-the-time pop splits the difference between Ben Kweller and the All-American Rejects, headlines. Also on the bill are the burnt-sugar-pop sister act Meg & Dia, '90s-rock preservers Every Avenue, electro-poppers Breathe Carolina and newcomers Anarbor.
