On Monday morning, AC/DC announced their first North American tour in nine years, with 13 stadium shows planned for next spring. The dates will be a continuation of their "Power Up" Tour which ran from May to August in Europe. The tour is in honor of their 2020 studio album of the same name.
On April 14, the band will perform at AT&T Stadium, which is to say they're taking an exit off the "highway to hell" to Arlington. Or that they're "back in black," for perhaps the last time ever. Or that they will "shoot to thrill" Dallas-Fort Worth this spring. Last one: Or that "for those about to rock (in Arlington) we salute you."
The show will be the band's first appearance in the Dallas area since a February 2016 stop at American Airlines Center on the 'Rock Or Bust' Tour.
This tour's lineup features sole original member Angus Young alongside longtime lead singer Brian Johnson. During 'Rock Or Bust,' Johnson was ordered by a doctor to "stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss." The last 22 shows of the tour were canceled, but eventually rescheduled with Guns 'N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose filling in on vocals.
Now 77, Johnson completed all 24 European dates on the 'Power Up' Tour and is set to continue as the frontman through the North American dates. Famed session musicians Matt Laug and Chris Chaney will take over rhythm duties on the drums and bass, respectively, with Stevie Young taking over his late uncle Malcolm Young's role on rhythm guitar.
Tickets for the upcoming tour go on sale on Friday, Dec. 6, available on the official AC/DC website.
