The bitter cold Tuesday night didn't stay for long at House of Blues, where a post-punk show was in full swing.
Opener Sextile immediately set the tone, sending the crowd into a crazed dance party with its infectious post-punk synth rave tunes.
The Los Angeles trio — which includes founding members Brady Keehn and Melissa Scaduto, joined by Lia Braswell on drums — left no pauses during their set, and jumped and danced along the stage just as much as the crowd.
They ended their set by waving an abortion rights flag as a blatant nod to where they stand on one of Texas' key issues. Once they exited, the anticipation was palpable — heavy in the air — for Molchat Doma.
Right from the first synth key hit, a massive wave of fans began clamoring to get as close to the Belarusian band as possible. Lead singer Egor Shkutko danced through the fog and strobing lights as if trying to weave between the beams. His bandmates, guitarist Roman Komogortsev and bassist Pavel Kozlov, danced and switched instruments between guitar/bass and synths/drum machines throughout their nearly two-hour set. They ended their set with the infamous song "Судно (Борис Рижий) Sudno (Boris Ryzhy)" transforming the entire venue into a goth dance club.
From the floor section to the balcony seats, the ground shook to the beat of the audience dancing along the coldwave synth track. The venue stayed hot and crowded for the entirety of the show, and surely the cold air while exiting the venue was welcomed.
