The change to BYOB wasn’t enough to save Fort Worth’s Fairmount, sadly, and the South Side’s biggest music venue had to shut its doors after Sunday’s pre-Cinco De Mayo celebration with Star De Azlan.

But while the venue may be gone, co-owners Sally Birthisel and J.R. Whitfield will still be involved in local music. According to an e-mail sent by Birthisel last night, the two have been invited to run booking and sound for a new, as-yet-unopened venue with a capacity of 600 and new stage, sound and lighting. The news is as vague as it is exciting: no word on the venue’s location or when it will be open. I’ve left messages for Birthisel to find out more.
