Remember the Band in a Bubble promotion a few years back? When that one band with that one song got a reality show backed by MTV and Dr Pepper and were tasked with staying in a bubble and spend 20 days writing and recording a new album? Fort Worth native and former American Idol contestant Tim Halperin is doing something kind of like that to promote his debut full-length album, Rise and Fall.
Prior to the album’s release next Tuesday, September 27, Halperin will be getting all metaphorical, and spend 28 hours locked up in a pop-up jail cell being placed in West Village. From 5 a.m. on Monday to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, he’ll be there. You’ll be able to watch the whole thing online here — although, trust us, if Band in a Bubble was indication, it won’t nearly be as interesting as it sounds.
Halperin’s M.O. is kind of intersting, though: The dude’s apparently doing this as some sort of statement against a contract AI thrusts upon its contestants that doesn’t allow them to release new music, I guess?
He explains the bit in a new press release just sent out, announcing his impending “jail” stint:

“This contract has felt like being in prison because I haven’t been able to do what I love most: share my music with others,” Halperin said. “I was nearly finished with this album more than a year ago, but I’ve had to wait on its release for several months. I’m finally going to be set free from American Idol prison on September 27th – the same day as the release of my debut full-length album on iTunes.”
He’s doing the stint as a fundraiser for Kidd’s Kids, too, so expect some coverage from “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning,” etc. No surprise there: Halperin actually does have a decent piano-pop thing going for himself that AI never got around to really showcasing. See for yourself by giving his one-take music video for his single “She Runs” a watch after the jump.
