When he's not serving as the lead guitarist for Dashboard Confessional, John Lefler settles down in his Dallas home and conjures up some pretty impressive power pop.
His first solo effort, Better By Design, came out last summer. Produced by Salim Nourallah, the album's sparkling mix of Beach Boys, Badfinger and Big Star--and couldn't be farther from the overly earnest alt-rock of Dashboard, really.
Tonight, Lefler will offer up some of his tasty power pop at Opening Bell Coffee's Southside location. Also on the bill? Paul Averitt, who happens to play in Lefler's band as well as in Beatles cover band Hard Night's Day.
It's an all-acoustic evening and it's free. What? Like you have something better to do on a Monday? Actually, before you answer that, you better hit the jump with us and take a listen to one of Lefler's finer tracks, "Lucy." Then our imploring you to check out this show might make a little more sense.
...see what I mean?
