You wouldn't know it from this week's print supplement to DC9, but the beginning of NX35 tonight does not mean that the rest of the North Texas music community grinds to a halt until Monday.

Case in point: Xiu Xiu will bring its melodramatic experimental art-rock to The Cavern tonight, along with sound artist/filmmaker Sarah Lipstate's solo electronic soundscape project Noveller and San Antonio's Girl In A Coma.

Cover for the show is $12, but thanks to the generosity of booking company Spune, one lucky DC9 reader and his or her guest can get in free.

OK, so it's not a T-shirt hand-lettered with the band's own blood, but it's still a pretty sweet offer. All you've got to do is be the first to e-mail me with the subject "Xiu Xiu For Life" and your full name somewhere in the email, and you and a friend will get in free.

Update: Contest over. Congrats to the winner.

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
