Good Friday: Analog Rebellion, C.J. Ramone and the Rest of This Weekend's Shows

While definitely not the biggest show this weekend, we thought the above concert promo video for tonight's show at Dada deserved a view. If only we had a "Concert Trailer of the Week" feature on DC9...

Oh well. Still pretty cool, though.

But if the above lineup featuring Analog Rebellion, Gallerycat, Larry Gee and Dovetail is too eclectic for you, there are still plenty of other shows going on this weekend, starting with the ones we've already mentioned this week.

Tonight, former Ramones bass player (post Dee Dee) C.J. Ramone will be at Trees with Evenmark, Waking Alice, and Color of Aum, and Seryn will perform one of their first Dallas shows, at AllGood Cafe, since returning from a US tour. And, oh yeah, The Coathangers will be at Bryan Street Tavern tonight, along with Catching Chloe, Chicken & Whiskey, and LegSweeper.

On Saturday, Whiskey Folk Ramblers and Kentucky Knife Fight will be at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth, and, in Dallas, Hayes Carll will be at the House Of Blues. Also, Kasey Chambers and Warren Hood will be at the Granada Theater.

Lastly, on Sunday, Kid Cudi and Chip Tha Ripper will be at The Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, and Iceage will perform at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton.

Hit the jump to see the rest of our top picks from this weekend's shows.

A. Dd+, Dru B Shinin, The Nice Guys
Friday, July 15, at The Aardvark

Fort Worth's hip-hop scene is, at this point, being spearheaded by Dru B Shinin -- a squeaky clean kid who raps about getting up early in the morning and being responsible and what not. Luckily, A. Dd+, whose recent video features members under arrest, will bring a little street cred to the show. Same goes for Houston's The Nice Guys, who will be the opening act.

Jessie Frye, Young And Brave, Scott Dangerous
Friday, July 15, at Hailey's Club

The Denton songstress -- no, not Sarah Jaffe, but another one by the name of Jessie Frye -- is still fairly fresh off the release of her John Congleton-produced record Fireworks Child. We gave her record a pretty rave review, in spite of its glossy sound. Live, though, the singer taps into her grittier side.

David Garza & Twang-Twang Shock-A-Boom, Suzanna Choffel
Saturday, July 16, at The Kessler Theater

David Garza was a Deep Ellum staple in the '90s. So, now he's back with his original band. Only this time you have to cross the Trinity to see him.

Seryn, The Orbans, Ryan Thomas Becker, Bravo, Max, Goodnight Ned
Saturday, July 16, at Dada

Dada is celebrating the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market first anniversary with this show. Not a bad way to turn one year old, either -- especially considering this lineup of the area's best bands. Seryn will have just returned from a national tour and the rest of the bands on the bill are all revered by local music fans and critics. Without a doubt, this is Dallas proper's best show on Saturday night.

Sonic Jamulator
Saturday, July 16, at Dan's Silverleaf

Gotta give it up for the name.

True Widow, Sans Soleil, Sundress
Saturday, July 16, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios

Possibly the best local show happening this weekend. All three acts on this bill have a strong sense of what they're trying to do. Sundress, with their psychedelic shoegaze will start things off, and, after that, Sans Soleil will use their dark instrumental post-rock to start the slow descent into True Widow's slow-grinding stonegaze.

DJ Leeds
Sunday, July 17, at Hailey's Club

You can't see Midlake any time soon, as they are holed up working on their next record. But you can see a piece of the band as guitarist Eric Pulido, aka DJ Leeds, spins some jams at Hailey's on Sunday. Odds that Christopher Cross will be played are very high.

...and that's it for us. Have a good weekend, and we'll see you back here on Monday.
