Denton’s own Jessie Frye tackles the latest installment of 35 Denton’s cover series with perhaps the most Texas-referential one yet, reinterpreting the Mountain Goats’ “The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton,” off 2002’s Emperor Jones LP, All Hail West Texas. Gone is John Darnielle’s small-town story about metal bros Jeff and Cyrus, replaced with a black & white, pseudo-sacrificial, NSFW romp through North Texas woods.

Between this video and the Best Coast one earlier this week, 35D is certainly doing a great job of making us feel weird “inside.”

Also, where are all these covers going to end up, hmm? We’ll probably find out soon, yes?

In other news, this Saturday night, 35 Denton does Dallas at 2826 Arnetic, where they’ll be showcasing the talents of fest acts -topic, Soviet, the Demigs and Mexican Lions. Bonus: You could win a wristband for the fest.

Their schedule is now live, so get to plotting.
