Josh Abbott Band to Headline the 2015 Dallas Observer St. Patrick's Day Concert

Here we are, folks: No man's land. That's right, dead in the middle of that ghastly stretch of the year between New Year's and Memorial Day where there are few, if any, work holidays to be had. Sure, there's Valentine's Day, but no one gets a day off for that, so who cares? All that we're really left with for sustenance is that most sacred of days: St. Patrick's Day.

As we've done for many years past, the Dallas Observer is celebrating St. Paddy's Day the only way we know how: By throwing a big ass, drunken party. But this year we're flipping the script a bit from years past by offering up none other than native Texas country star Josh Abbott Band as the headliner.

We'll forgive you if you've forgotten (that's kind of the point of the holiday, right?), but in recent years our St. Paddy's day concerts have been dominated by hip hop. The past two years, for instance, featured legendary rappers Ludacris and Snoop Dogg at the top of the bills, respectively. So Abbott's inclusion is a definite change of pace -- but it, too, should be perfectly suited to the occasion.

Abbott, whose band got its start in Lubbock, has been one of the Lone Star State's proudest flag wavers in recent years, scoring hits with songs like "She's Like Texas" and "My Texas." Reducing his output to such obvious signposts is, of course, a disservice to a genuinely gifted songwriter, but the fact remains: If green-beer drinking partygoers are looking for an excuse to get rowdy, this is just the band to get them in the spirit.

The remaining artists on the bill will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets cost $15 in advance and go on sale on Friday, February 6 at ticketfly.com. Presale tickets will be available starting from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2 until 10 p.m. on Thursday, February 5 and available only when you sign up for the Dallas Observer Music Newsletter.

The event takes place immediately after the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 14 at Energy Square on the corner of Greenville Ave. and University Blvd. Gates open at noon. For more information, visit DallasStPats.com.

Guests must 21 years of age or older to attend.
