It doesn't matter what kind of festival you are attending, the most fun is always the side events you have to travel down a less beaten path for a less obvious offering. The Oak Cliff Film Festival kicked off last night at the Texas Theater and has plenty to offer up for the music nerds in town, including a Saturday screening of silent film Silent Shadow of the Bat-Man with a performance of the score live.
But to really mix the audio and visual pleasure the Saturday schedule entails a Music Video Showcase screening featuring videos from Beach House, James Blake and others. And because no festival is complete without an afterparty, stick around to catch an intimate performance at El Sibel from Buffalo Black with a DJ set from Dallas Cool-Out reviver Tony Schwa. What, you need more incentive? The whole thing is sponsored by Kronenbourg 1664 Beer and kicks off at 10 p.m., which give you plenty of time to make your hair big.
If MTV won't give us music videos, at least we can count on the Oak Cliff Film Festival. Go forth.
