Spinster Records (829 W. Davis St.) is throwing a watch party for the season two finale of Apple TV’s Severance, complete with cocktails, a DJ set and a waffle party. Office attire is encouraged.
It’s the vision of Alaska Quiñones, an Oak Cliff-based DJ who goes by Alaska on stage.
“I’m a huge fan of Severance,” she says. “I know the ratings are high, but I literally couldn’t find one other person that watches the show. I’m always spreading the gospel of it, so I feel like a good way to find other friends that watch the show is to do a watch party.”
Alaska and Spinster’s Instagram post announcing the event already has nearly 300 shares. Surely, the like-minded fans are out there.
“I didn't want to do it at a bar with just a bunch of TVs,” she says. “In the show, music plays a really big part. It’s a lot of jazz and funky music. When I think of that, I think of a cool, funky record shop.”
The soundtrack to Severance Season 2 includes songs from Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, alongside an original score by composer Theodore Shapiro. Alaska will be DJing from 8-10 p.m. as people arrive at the party, matching the show’s sonic aesthetic in a more upbeat fashion.
“I’ve been DJing for a few years now,” she says. “It’s a lot of groovy, funky jazz vibes. I already have a few hours of this music kind of fixed together, but I’m really just gonna play it by ear.”
The watch party is set for Thursday, March 20. Limited tickets are available for $10 each. The finale will be screened on Spinster’s projector beginning at 10 p.m.
“I think there's going to be betrayal within the core four,” Quiñones predicts. “I don't want it to happen, but it's looking like there's going to be a crazy twist.”
