Unless you’ve been living under a rock, this is old news: Rio Room is kind of killing it these days. Forget the fact that Playboy named it one of the best clubs in the states last month; the Travis Street hotspot has played host to the likes of Erykah Badu (twice!), Questlove, Diplo, Chromeo, Cee-Lo, Dirk Nowitzki (aka The German Moses) and, oh, about a million (slight hyperbole) other stellar DJs since celebrating its grand opening back in April.
Now it’s adding another notch to its belt: Hometown heroes and two-time Grammy-winning hip-hop production duo Play-N-Skillz is launching a weekly DJ residency at the spot this Sunday night. And, for this very first installment, which is doubling as Skillz’s birthday bash, the brothers Salinas are bringing in a couple high-profile friends to help kick things off right.
Joining Play-N-Skillz on Sunday at Rio will be noted R&B singers Mya (“Ghetto Superstar,” anyone?) and Ray J (Brandy’s brother and celebrated VH1 reality star).
It’s gonna be “an upscale urban night” says Rio Room’s Parker Lawson of the new night, which is being called R+R Sundays. Hey, sounds good to us. Details on how to get into this weekend’s kickoff on the image below. For more info, check the Facebook page.
