After five long years that felt more like 50, fans finally have their hands on Playboi Carti’s fourth album, I AM MUSIC. The 30-track record clocks in at over an hour and features guest verses from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott and Future, among many others. So maybe it was worth the wait after all.

Carti began teasing the album in 2023 with an Instagram post that read, “I am music” in December. Shortly after, DJ Akademiks tweeted that the album would come out the following January, but the month came and went with no release.

Most of 2024 continued in this fashion, with Carti and other members of his Opium label teasing the album by posting
snippets to Instagram and using the phrase “2024 music,” but no record release ever came within sight.

It seems that Spotify’s support might be the sure sign that a project is actually dropping. Carti teamed up with the streaming platform to put up billboards last month that read “MUSIC IS COMING,” “I AM MUSIC MF” and “SORRY FOR THE WAIT,” among a variety of other messages.

The release date was seemingly confirmed when Carti took to X for the first time since 2022 to tweet that March 14 was the date, but like with Ye, you never really know when a Carti album will hit streaming services.

The list of producers who contributed to this project is even longer than the list of features and ranges from F1lthy and TM88 to Wheezy, Metro Boomin and even Ye. Because of this, the album has a diverse blend of sounds and production styles, making the long runtime more palatable.

Dallas even caught a bit of a stray from Lamar on “GOOD CREDIT” in the form of a Luka Dončić mention. With the way our season has been going without our star point guard, this just feels like Lamar is rubbing salt in the wound.

“The numbers is nothing, the money is nothing / I really been him, I promise / Say Kenny been heavy out West and I carry the weight, n——, I'm Luka Dončić,” he sings.

The 2017 XXL Freshman alumni is also stopping in Dallas this August as a part of The Weeknd’s After Hours Till Dawn 2025 Stadium Tour. The show's already sold out, but those who were able to snag tickets are surely in for an unforgettable night at American Airlines.
