Much like Loretta Lynn, who we featured today, Etta James endured her share of hardships in order to become the blues and R&B phenom she did. That voice could peel paint off the walls, in the best way possible. If you don’t get goosebumps when you hear “At Last,” I don’t want to know you.
After battling both leukemia and dementia, she passed away today at age 73. Above is some footage of her at the House of Blues in 2008. Tell Mama will be on repeat this weekend.
