Chicago’s Disturbed may headline the beast known as the UPROAR Music Festival, but it’s California’s Avenged Sevenfold that may well be the hottest metal band going. Nightmare, the band’s recently released fifth album, debuted atop Billboard’s album chart, bumping even the immortal Eminem from the top spot. And Nightmare is a hell of a record, an effort that has helped fans cope with the death of founding member James “The Rev” Sullivan.

But having either Avenged Sevenfold or Disturbed serve as the top dog at UPROAR is just icing on an already sweet metal confection. Also appearing (albeit on the second “Jagermeister” stage) will be Dallas’ own Hellyeah, Vinnie Paul Abbott‘s much-celebrated supergroup. Hellyeah’s recently issued sophomore effort, Stampede, is a pedal-to-the-metal Goliath that does nothing to disparage the memory of Paul’s former band, Pantera.

Other acts hitting the festival’s stages throughout the afternoon and evening include Des Moines’ Sour Stone, which throws some nice grunge influences into the mix, Pennsylvania’s Halestorm, Australia’s Airbourne, Minneapolis’ New Medicine, Ontario’s Hail the Villian and Austin’s Squint, which bears the onus of kicking the day off with a 3:15 p.m. set.
