Among the many arguments that dominated our corner of the high school cafeteria was the topic of world's best bass player. One kid was confident that Flea was the greatest. Another kid was a really big fan of Dave Matthews Band, so he thought that guy was really good. But in the end, it was hard to argue against Les Claypool. His band Primus has made a sort of odd-ball brand of rock since 1984, with only a few lineup changes.

And, now, all these years later, the band will embark on a new tour that will bring them to the Palladium Ballroom on Wednesday, May 25. Tickets will go on sale for $35 this Friday at 10a.m. through Ticketmaster.

In other show announcements news, blog darlings Real Estate will be at Club Dada on Friday, April 8. Their melancholy, lo-fi surf pop is simple and dreamy. Echoing like shoegaze, but simple and minimal, their songs are both frail and powerful. Tickets are $10 at Good Records or at Front Gate.
