A single tweet was all Chris Cornell needed to reverse a decade’s worth of staunch denials on the possibility of a Soundgarden reunion.
On January 1, 2010, the singer posted “Knights of the Soundtable ride again!” on his Twitter account. Four months later, the band played its first live gig in nearly 13 years. Unfortunately for fans of the Gods of Grunge, the band’s reformation amounted to but a handful of festival gigs and one-off performances.
But, as it turns out, 2010 was a mere testing of the waters for the band, all leading up to a 2011 that has seen far more extensive touring as well as work on their first new material in 15 years. This week’s performance in Grand Prairie with Mastodon has been a long time coming for the band, as Soundgarden’s last trip through Dallas was a July 1994 concert at Fair Park Coliseum in support of Superunknown.
