One of our goals at Dallas Observer is to cover local music and introduce you to artists and songs that may be under your radar.

To get a jump on your Independence Day weekend plans, we’re introducing our Dallas Fourth of July Party playlist, our first Spotify playlist that gathers a mix of hip-hop, country and more from artists such as BigXThaPlug, Joshua Ray Walker, Dezi 5, Remy Reilly, Larry Gee, Kali Flower and more. You read that right. We’ve officially created a Spotify account (follow us) and will occasionally curate playlists, highlighting our favorite tracks.

At about an hour long, this is your playlist for grilling, chilling poolside or hanging out in your backyard in the shade. If you’re hitting the lake and don’t know what to throw on, this is the playlist for you. We decided to do all local. No, Katy Perry’s “Fireworks,” but that is still a great song.

Some of the artists on the list we’ve seen open for touring acts or perform at showcases in Deep Ellum. There are songs like J$PH’s “Super Sunday,” which he teased during his set at Dave East’s show in May, having the crowd rocking to the beat. Jayson Lyric’s “Wait for the Beat Drop,” off his Brick V mixtape, was an instant standout that we had to add here. Our favorite cousin Scuttino’s “Doug Dimmadome” is a song we’ve been digging when he performs it live.

We've added Kali Flower's dreamy new single “Bottom of the Ocean,” introducing her Lost Girl SZN and Remy Reilly's "Ricochet." She told us she sent our article to her situationship. We love that move.

This playlist features D-Town Boogie, swinging music, New Dallas rap and more. It's also got bars, word to Rakim Al-Jabbaar. We hope you dig in while you’re eating delicious food during your upcoming fireworks-fueled holiday. Stream it below.
