All hail the trout mask replicas of the new bearded age! For the Sunburned Hand of the Man are the New Weird America! Or something like that. All we know is, when these wicked-strange Bostonians roll into town, there might be masks, rainsticks and shambolic neo-beatnik absurdism, but there will definitely be mad rhythm warfare and a heavier riff ratio than the acid-folk explorations of their records. Opening is Mazinga Phaser II, mach three. Hometowner Mwanza Dover's revamped troupe has shed its awkward space-pop/garage-psych vacillations, settling on a more exciting, frenzied blend of tribal and IDM with dissonant garnishes. Playing first is Dallas' Unconscious Collective, an improvisational crew featuring flute, bells, major-league jazz chops and a punk-rock mentality.
