Michael McDonald, Donald Fagen and Boz Scaggs will join forces and play as one big band. Pretty cool concept, especially since Fagen will get to play “Peg” with McDonald, the original backing vocalist. Scaggs, who spent time growing up in suburban Dallas, will certainly be welcomed with open arms. With McDonald, he’ll play his hits from his years with The Doobie Brothers and as a solo act. But there will probably come a point where McDonald will bust out his saccharine renditions of Motown classics. The world didn’t need “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Reach Out, I’ll Be There” to get its human center zapped and replaced by Botox injections, but there is still a paying audience that wants to hear this lifeless crap. Consider that part of the show for a bathroom break or another drink from the bar.
