It's still more than five months, but plans are already in motion for the weekend of February 12 through February 14--or, as we've already called it, the most important weekend in Dallas hip-hop history--when the 2010 NBA All-Star game rolls through town.

So far, at least one hip-hop party plan is in place: On Friday, February 12, DJ Dre and friends of his from the DJ Drop-led Definition DJs crew will host a party at Union Station--no doubt a sign that the crew that brought the Boogie to the forefront of the Dallas scene is hoping to make some big plays during the annual event, which often doubles as a magnet for the music industries biggest hip-hop moguls.

Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
