Tim Kasher, on a break from recording with Cursive and The Good Life, is trekking through the states on his own at the moment. And he's doing so in support of a couple of solo release, too -- last year's The Game of Monogamy, and a new EP featuring some leftover songs from that same recording session called Bigamy: More Songs From the Monogamy Sessions.
Before stopping in town to play The Loft tomorrow night, Kasher was nice enough to share with us some of his earliest show-going memories. And what's extra nice? He was with a past "My First Show" subject when he saw one of the worst shows he's ever attended.
What was the first show you remember seeing? Were you with your parents?
I'm the youngest of six, so there were too many kids in the family for my parents to take us to a show like The Police or something. I remember going to the zoo one day when The Police were playing the stadium next door. It wasn't until junior high that me and some friends of mine got a ride and saw INXS on the Kick tour.
So, this is '88, '89?
Yeah, around then. I always remember that summer well because I was at the pool every day. After that weekend that INXS came through, everybody at the pool had the same over-sized INXS Kick T-shirt.
Was that the first show you remember paying money to see?
Yeah. I would have been 12. I don't think I really paid to see anything before that. I could afford the tickets with allowance money, lawn-mowing money. I think I paid $15 to get in back then.

Gotta go old school here: What do you remember about the first Slowdown Virginia [Kasher's pre-Cursive band] show?
I don't! Everything kinda becomes a little bit of a blur. We did a band before that and I don't think there was much of a gap between them and Slowdown. And there wasn't that much of a gap between that and Cursive. I don't really remember Cursive's first show either. I do remember The Good Life's first show. It was a basement show.
What was the worst show you've seen?
That's a tricky one. I saw Poison with Beau [Wagener of Macavity and The Crash That Took Me]. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the worst show I've seen. It was Poison opening for Kiss. I finished a tour and spent a few days hanging around.
Anything stick out about Poison to you?
I feel kinda bad for saying it because it's all objective. But it's not really my thing. I never really liked Poison. I never really listened to their music, but some of my friends did and still do. What I was listening to could be equally made fun of, depending on who you are.
