In 2017, they reunited for a few dates and a short run of Texas shows in Dallas, Houston, Waco, San Antonio and Austin. The band reemerged again in 2019 for a handful of North Texas dates and again for a one-off night at The Kessler on 24-hour notice in 2022.
Last summer, a Tripping Daisy show was announced at the Factory in Deep Ellum (prior to adding the "bomb" back to its name). In the weeks leading up to that show, we got wind of an impending full-blown Tripping Daisy reunion, complete with a tour and new album.
“There’s not been a record made,” DeLaughter told us then. “But we are in the process of going in that direction, and we’re definitely going to go on tour in 2025.”
DeLaughter kept his word. The band’s 22-date tour kicks off in Dallas on June 21 at the Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum, almost exactly a year removed from their last show at the venue. In the meantime, DeLaughter and founding bassist Mark Pirro’s Polyphonic Spree has been making headlines for its groundbreaking new immersive film experience, Resolution, which opened at the Omni Theatre in Fort Worth and held screenings at SXSW.
For the tour, the band will be playing their 1995 album, I Am an Elastic Firecracker, in its entirety and promises songs from every other Tripping Daisy album. Their show at the Factory last year was arranged the same way, opening with all 12 songs from Elastic Firecracker and then performing a second set of other material. They performed once more last year, with a New Year’s show at Trees.
The current Tripping Daisy lineup consists of DeLaughter on vocals and Pirro on bass, with longtime drummer Bryan Wakeland and guitarists Philip Karnats, Dylan Silvers, and Nick Earl.
For the new record, each member described the writing process as spontaneous and typically in front of a live audience. Some of the band’s most popular hits (especially “Prick,” which each member mentioned separately) were composed for the first time during an improv jam during a live show.
For the chance to hear a brand new Tripping Daisy song come together in front of you or just to party and sing along to “Piranha,” presale tickets to some tour dates are already on sale, with most general sales going live on Friday, April 18.
