Hold onto your butts, Dallas; it's that time of year again. Dallas Observer Music Awards time.
DOMA time has moved back to its latest time of year ever, but we couldn't be more excited about it. This year, our annual music awards showcase -- Chevy Music Showcase North Texas Presents the Dallas Observer Music Awards if you're not into the whole brevity thing -- takes place on Saturday, December 6 in clubs all over Deep Ellum.
Of course, in order for there to be a music awards showcase, there need to be awards. That's where you come in.
Over the past couple months, we've worked on pulling together the official ballot for this year's awards. That meant polling 150 local music experts -- including promoters, bookers, venue owners, critics, photographers and all other sorts of folks who eat, sleep and breathe local music -- back in August to help establish the candidates for each of our 43 categories. It wasn't easy, but we whittled those votes down to the top five for each of those categories.
Voting for the awards will continue all the way until the DOMA ceremony takes place, the date and location for which will be announced in the coming weeks. To vote, go to musicawardspoll.dallasobserver.com.
In the meantime, there's also the important business of the showcase, our own sprawling tribute to the bands that have made it onto the ballot. We'll have over 50 bands playing gigs on December 6 between Club Dada, The Door, The Green Room, Prophet Bar, Reno's Chop Shop, Three Links and Trees.
Tickets for the showcase got on sale next Friday, October 10 at ticketfly.com, but you don't have to wait that long. If you sign up for the Dallas Observer Music Newsletter, you'll get an exclusive chance at Pre-Sale tickets from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 9. Pre-Sale tickets are available for a reduced price of $10, while the regular-priced tickets are a still more-than-reasonable $20.
There will also be VIP tickets available for those seeking out the deluxe treatment at the DOMA showcase. VIP includes access to all participating venues, 3 free drink tickets at the private bar, catered buffet and a free DOMA T-shirt. Price for those passes will be $34 Pre-Sale and $50 Day Of.
All guests must be 21 years of age to attend the showcase.
