In another age, North Texan Melissa Polinar might still be sitting at a desk in Nashville, churning out songs for other artists to record. She did that, in fact, for a while in the early 2000s. But when you’re a gifted writer and you have a voice like hers (that voice!), you don’t need to wait your turn anymore. So she didn’t: She returned home and started posting her songs on YouTube, where she has now amassed over 60,000 subscribers.
