Support the independent voice of Dallas and help keep the future of Dallas Observer free.
Coulda sworn over the Christmas break that Hawaii head coach June Jones said no way he was interested in the SMU gig -- as in, "I'm not gonna hear from them." Two weeks later, and still no one's quite sure whether Jones is leaving paradise for the Park Cities -- not even June Junes, turns out. Reminds me a little of Bob Dylan, as in: "Because something is happening here/But you don't know what it is/Do you, Mister Jones?"
So till he makes his decision, here's a pretty decent recap-timeline of the events of the weekend, during which Jones allegedly came to town with the intention of taking the head coaching job only to waffle after he was so "moved by e-mails and phone calls from Hawaii supporters." Also, video from KGMB-Channel 9, the CBS affiliate based out of Honolulu. --Robert Wilonsky
Keep the Dallas Observer Free... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Dallas with no paywalls.
