Some are good. Some are getting better.
But only a select few are the best.
When it comes to our annual Best of Dallas issue I’ve made it easy this year. For those of you too cheap to “buy” a paper that’s absolutely free, just sit back in your boxers and click, click, click away.
I present the Best of Dallas Sports for 2011. And for those of you who continually bemoan about my lack of taste, let’s start with …
The rest, including deleted scenes? Right thissa way …
Too bad there wasn’t a category for “Best Commenters (Who Regularly Spew Hate) on a Sports Blog”, because obviously …

They go to Nick & Sam’s when they’re hungry. They flitter over to Dragonfly at Hotel ZaZa when they want to get their drink on. But when rich and famous athletes want to hunker down and watch sports over a cold beer in a hot spot, they congregate at Ten. At the corner of Main and Field, the downtown sports bar has hosted such celebs as Steve Nash (who stopped by to watch some English soccer), Charles Barkley (who stopped by to watch some NBA Playoffs) and Shaquille O’Neal (who stopped by because he knew he’d be recognized, but not mobbed). Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, Eduardo Najera and even the band Puddle of Mudd have been known to pop in. SMU hoops coach Matt Doherty is a regular. With nine hi-def Plasmas, a prime location adjacent to Hotel Adolphus and just the right dash of ambience and anonymity, Ten has become the Bo Derek of Dallas sports scenes.

Screw foreplay, these places are downright orgasmic. If, that is, you get aroused milling around a former old Plano Home Depot warehouse filled with sports memorabilia, a gazillion Izods, two bajillion clubs, a tennis court, a putting green, a chipping area complete with sand trap and countless driving range stalls equipped with computer analysis, simulated courses and a daily $50 closest-to-the-pin contest. Go in for a casual Sunday afternoon look-see and by the time you leave it’ll be Tuesday. You’ll get the usual golf gabfest about two-downs, three-putts, snowmen and worn-out impressions of Carl Spackler. But if you need anything to improve your game or at least a gadget to distract you from how seriously you suck, this is the place. Out front of the Plano location is a Hummer golf cart selling for a cool $12,435. Like the sign says, “This is big.”
