On the other side is a fresh-off-the-virtual-presses press release from the city warning that by early tomorrow morning, there’s a pretty decent chance that as the Trinity River crests — and, as of right now, NOAA has that happening at 42.8 feet — “some
areas of the City may experience flooding downstream past the levees in
the Cadillac Heights area and the area along Canada Drive between
Hampton and Sylvan,” an all-too-common occurrence during significant rain events like today’s.
NOAA’s current guesstimation is well below today’s earlier warning, but with more rain looping up from the north — and, till 6:30 p.m., tornado warnings — the city’s taking no chances:
In response, the City activated the reverse 911 system, initiating
notification phone calls to residents and businesses in the areas
potentially affected by this weather event, encouraging individuals and
families to seek higher ground and activate their personal, family
emergency plans. The Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue
has crews in these neighborhoods monitoring water levels and helping
residents as needed. In addition, Trinity Watershed Management – Flood
Control Division has staff riding with the Dallas Police Department
Helicopter Unit to monitor the water level by air.
Schutze, incidentally, will have a post tomorrow morning about his evening spent amongst the residents of Cadillac Heights.
