Tuesday is a long way off, but already some folks are headed back to Dallas from New Orleans in advance of Hurricane Gustav’s expected landfall in Louisiana, possibly as a Category 3 storm. So it seems, at least, from the news and notes references scattered about this afternoon. Time‘s Steven Gray, born and raised in New Orleans, notes that “yesterday, my mom booked my 70-something grandparents on flights to Dallas, where they’ll stay with relatives.” And The Shreveport Times today quotes a Longview hotel desk clerk who says, “Some of the calls I have gotten from Louisiana, the people said they’ll probably end up in Dallas.” Dallas County officials are preparing accordingly. –Robert Wilonsky
