Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins

A couple of days back, The Wall Street Journal ran a profile of Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins – and he’s “The Exonerator,” proclaimed the headline to a story that, like many others written about Watkins in recent months, focuses almost exclusively on the wrongfully imprisoned who’ve been freed using DNA evidence. Watkins says he knows what the naysayers think of him — that he’s a “a criminal-loving DA, a hug-a-thug DA.” To which he says, he’s just seeking justice.

On the paper’s Law Blog today, Jennifer Forsyth follows up with another piece about Watkins that asks whether he’s “a hero or a media hound?” She also points readers toward a profile of Watkins that appeared in yesterday’s Star-Telegram. –Robert Wilonsky
