What’s Funnier: the Internet or the Cowboys Defense? You Be the Judge

It can’t be good when the kicker and punter are the two best players on your team… Again.
Laughing can be good, regardless of the reason, we think.

For a couple of weeks, Cowboys fans felt pretty good about their team. For those who didn’t bother to inspect any of the team’s recent wins too thoroughly, it might’ve seemed as though Dak Prescott and crew were really making a name for themselves as some sort of contender. But then Sunday happened in Denver.

Our main question throughout the Cowboys’ embarrassing 44-24 loss to the Broncos was whether every Dallas player spent too much money in one of the city’s many legal weed dispensaries, or just like 99% of them did. Kicker Brandon Aubrey, as usual, didn’t miss any of the few chances he had, while Punter Brian Anger’s leg smacked a respectable 50-yard average over five punts. From the start, the Cowboys were slow and ineffective on both sides of the ball, while Denver looked like a legitimate contender, simply getting in some practice reps every step of the way.

Perhaps it was those of us who began to view Prescott as an MVP frontrunner who were higher than Willie Nelson over the past few weeks. After the QB’s lethargic 188-yard, two-interception performance, it’s doubtful that he’ll be in such a discussion again, not anytime soon at least.

The defense, missing a number of key starters and still coached by Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus, who has yet to show anyone why he should still hold such a title, at least had those excuses for its poor showing on Sunday. The offense, however, was fully stocked with healthy, Pro Bowl-esque talent, but that didn’t matter in the thin air of the Rocky Mountains.

Luckily for us, so much of the sports world loves to see the Cowboys fail. We don’t love seeing that, of course, but we admit it’s at least a consolation prize in that we can laugh a little after being annoyed for three hours on an otherwise lovely Sunday afternoon.
